Colossians 2 : 14 – 17 ( objection refuted )

An important question is asked about the scripture of Colossians 2 :14 – 17.  Does not these texts nullify the commandment of Christ about the sabbath that points to Him as Creator?  The key to unlock the meaning of this passage is in the statement  “which are a shadow of things to come”. This distinguishes the fact that in these scriptures are revealed those things contained in the ceremonial law. This law consisted of meat offering , drink offerings , yearly sabbaths described in Leviticus 23 : 24 – 37, ect. The ceremonial law pointed people by faith to the coming Saviour ” from ” sin, not ” with ” sin.  It was put into operation “after” sin entered the human family. Beyond the cross there was no further obligation to keep those things contained in the handwriting of ordinances. To continue its service is a denial that God’s promise was fulfilled with Christ. As for the seventh day weekly sabbath that Jesus instituted at creation, it is a memorial that existed “before” sin entered the human race. Its observance and its place in eternity will always be sure.  (see Isaiah 66 : 23). Because Colossians 2 : 14 – 17 would even be attempted to be used to discredit God’s word about His holy Sabbath day, shows how lacking is the evidence against it.
